Markilux 3300 Awning in Wimbledon, SW19
We were contacted by our client in Wimbledon, SW19, to discuss shading solutions for the rear patio of this beautiful London home.
Recent research by the client had resulted in requiring something that would add great protection from both sun and rain while keeping the look of the house simple and elegant.
Initial Problem
When we first looked at the property, we discussed the area to be covered and the span and projection in detail.
The client wanted to project over the terrace area to include the table area and provide shade to both the room as well as a dining area, they did not want the system to cover the entire width of the patio due to shrubs on one side that they wanted to retain.
The main issue we came across was that the property was a single-story extension that restricted an awning projecting without support due to the leverage on the property.
Under normal circumstances, we would add either spreader plates or a “Goalpost” frame system to span the windows or doors and fit the awning across the support.
This installation was very different as the awning did not span the entire door and window area, and the goalpost support frame would have been very visible as it would have extended beyond the end of the awning and would have been quite ugly.
With experience of unusual installation, we suggested a proposal to supply the awning and camouflage the framework in a way that would almost make the awning become part of the building.
We designed and produced CAD details showing a framework that spanned almost 12 meters across the back of the property, complete with returns for the upright part of the goalpost to be concealed around the corner of the property and much less visible to the clean lines of the facade
To further complement this, we were still concerned about an awning cassette fitted onto the framework and the crossbar element
Our proposal concluded to offer the Markilux 3300 system that spanned 5500mm to cover the main door and part of the window. We offered this product due to the square design of the system and how it would complement the property, and in addition to this, we proposed to fit dummy awning boxes across the remaining elevation so that when the awning was retracted, it would look seamless in its design and not have added projecting boxing that would have appeared as an add-on rather than a continual line.
In conclusion, the client expressed how beautiful this looked and surpassed her expectations. What a great result.
